Embroidery

In addition to screen printing, a common way to decorate a garment is with embroidery. Embroidery involves the use of a needle and thread to stitch a design into a garment or other fabricated object (ex: a rug, blanket, etc). Due to the limitations of stitching versus printing, artwork has to be carefully prepared for use. This usually includes minimizing artwork complexity, diminishing detail, and ensuring that fonts are solid and clean. When the artwork has been prepared as necessary, an image of the artwork is imported into specialized computer software, and converted into it's threaded counterpart. When considering the cost of such work, it is important to remember that it is not calculated as screen printing is. It is not the number of colors used; instead, it is determined by thread count.
